Hey I saw this and decided to comment on it.
So for what I know, the API has nothing to do with a key system.
You're talking about how to make a application with a automated key system in C#.
This can mean a lot of things, but I'm going to explain how to make a random key.
Make a website, Add a front page (not a .txt) and in order to get the key you have to use recaptcha.
Make a Web API that returns the hash of the current key (Not the actual key, this is to protect your key systems)
Make a server Rest API and make it return the key's hash.
When the user type down the key, turn that key into a hash and compare the hash from the one that the API has given you.
You can ofc make a wait time for users by matching their IP.
And you'll want DDOS protection, so ig use cloudflare.
You might wanna learn how to read JSON, up to you
