Do NOT trust anyone on Discord.

About an hour ago my girlfriend messaged me with a QR code to scan. I know her in real life so I was like, she wouldn't do anything to me.

After scanning the QR code, I went to get into my online class and when I came back my account was disabled and I'm OTF with my girlfriend right now and she did not send me a QR code either.

TL;DR: Never scan QR codes from anyone, not even people you really trust.

My braincells were slowly failing me while reading this but I thought it was pretty obvious not to trust anyone too much and if she's your girl then why don't you text normally instead of discord that's kinda weird

This is a common scam to take over your account. Nitro codes have their own embeds, not a simple png picture. If you're on PC, there's a claim button, not a QR code. It's really just your common sense at this point.

If it wasn't a Nitro code, come on man, use common sense

it's clearly said, that QR codes are used to log in from a mobile. you can use it to log-in without typing in your username nor password. my friend did the same too and he was shocked and he told me that it was my fault, but i was just in a free nitro server (idk what was i doing there, possibly auto-joiner) and he said that i made him join the server.

so there's only one answer:

just don't scan QR codes untill you don't use it to log in your account using YOUR computer.

. . . all I can say is there was obviously no prevention to this but I advise talking to her parents or maybe use a website to preview the link to qr codes before you scan them.
