This guide is specific to moderators in the partnered Discord server.
I am FF#0255, the server owner. Just mentioning this in case a moderator is confused by who I am.
Expectations:
*Remember and enforce the rules found in #info.
-You may be a moderator, but you're not above the rules. You're expected to follow them as everyone else does.
-Reasonable leniency for the rules can be applied.
-“lol that was stupid†is okay UNLESS the person feels disrespected.
*Recognize that you partially represent the server. Your actions may be seen by members of the server and will judge the server on that basis.
-Do not act toxic, though this is a part of the rules anyway.
-No acting as if you're better than a regular member. You're not above them, you just have abilities to help control the chat flow.
*Delete rule offending chats.
*Moderate on the basis mentioned below.
*Ultimately, your goal is to make sure the chat is clean.
When to warn:
You can warn people with the command, “!warn @mention You broke break rule #x.†Though you're only to warn if they're found to break a rule. Delete the chat if necessary and warn the user. Only after a warning, should you continue to mute them. A warning may not be required if the offense is serious or unmanageable, such as child p*rn. (my own filter boofed me)
A warn does not require a warning from the bot command. The warning role is a note to other moderators that they've been warned before. You can warn them simply from the chat. If you decide to warn them via DM, consider making that known.
Preferably, you'd speak with the person before warning them. This can build a better community instead of going straight to threats. If someone is being toxic, try to ask them not to be rude. This isn't expected but it would be appreciated. There will be no repercussions to you, as a moderator, to go straight to warning someone.
Muting:
You can mute people with the command, “!mute @mention.â€
You're never to mute someone unless they're past the warn circumstances above.
Banning:
You should almost NEVER consider banning someone. It should rarely be the first choice. This is only available when some features of Discord are exploited. Such as:
- Someone spamming malware or advertisements through DMs
- Message chat flood raids
I do not care if the situation is difficult. Mutes work for nearly every situation. There is server verification in place to rate-limit new account joins. If you need to mute a minor rule evader 100 times, then so be it. It already takes them 10 minutes to rejoin the server while it takes you seconds to mute.
If you're found to dispatch unjustifiable bans, you may lose your role as a moderator. My goal is to retain all members if possible. I believe that most people can change after some time.
You can ban a user with the command, !ban @mention --reason "Malicious intent"
A reason must be specified.
ETC
*I'll try to come ASAP for emergencies. If for some reason you can't do anything about a situation, like when the ban cap has been reached, contact me.
*I'll attach the commands list to this eventually.
*Besides you moderators, I don't really have favoritism for anyone. You don't need my permission to mute someone of elevated status, such as personal friends, Patrons, or large influencers.
*Bot commands can be found here: https://roundbot.net/commands
