is it possible for me to host something like an isp so i can connect it to my wifi and no longer have to pay?

its only going to be on a single connection which is mine.

I'm in egypt

let me know if this is illegal or anything please

if this is too complicated like, "set up wires and stuff and get an electrician to set the wires on the signal thingy for you" (my wifi isnt wireless)

then nevermind

It is very possible, but you do need access to the internet.

And to avoid making a mess with setting up wires you could make a WISP, (Wireless Internet Service Provider) which transmit internet through the air.

You'd still need some internet though.

If you had a friend in another country and has fast internet and is willing to set up an OpenVPN tunnel from you to your WISP network then you are ready to not pay for internet and make some quick bucks on selling rate limited internet to your neighbours, and enjoy not being blocked by egypt's firewall

Being an ISP is no easy feat. It is expensive and extremely difficult.

Laying down fiber cables is expensive on its own (talking millions), that's ignoring negotiating with providers. It's a massive and extremely complicated topic, so TLDR: No, you can't.

@Wabz

The idea was to use a OpenVPN tunnel, but now that I think about it, its impossible without an internet connection anyway.

So its impossible.

What Aqua said (teaxs)

u going have to run your own lines and such

Most small isp rely on a bigger isp to provide service to them

So if u want to be fully independent tough luck xd

Your better off contacting your local isp and get a gigabit plan r some special plan that prob will cost a heck ton but will be super fast

Then sharing the connection with other people and then u are now your own “isp”

If you want to make a local mesh net, that could be a play. You would create your own network with one connection to the internet. (Or more if you need to download in bulk. (Which you will at the start, as you would cache the entire web basically.)) The goal would be a self-contained internet of sorts, though on a smaller scale. It would host any and all files you want and allow the computers on it to talk to each other.
